BCCI shortlists venues for ICC T20 World Cup 2021, Ahmedabad to host the final

Ahmedabad, Chennai, Hyderabad, Dharamshala, Bangalore, Kolkata, Mumbai, Lucknow and New Delhi have been shortlisted to hold the 45 match mega event.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India has narrowed down nine venues for the ICC T20 World Cup 2021 to be played in India. Ahmedabad, Chennai, Hyderabad, Dharamshala, Bangalore, Kolkata, Mumbai, Lucknow and New Delhi have been shortlisted to hold the 45 match mega event.

Interestingly, the last edition of the tournament was also held in India in 2016. At that time, Mohali and Nagpur were also a part of the schedule, while Chennai, Hyderabad, Lucknow and Ahmedabad were not in the list. It was also revealed that the final of the 2021 T20 World Cup will take place at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

Ahmedabad’s stadium is the largest in the world with a seating capacity of around 1.32 lakhs. It is also reported that the Indian Government have decided to clear the visas for the Pakistan team. BCCI secretary Jay Shah has apparently informed Apex Council of the Board that the Pakistan team will have no issues in travelling to India for the T20 World Cup in October.

“The visa issue of the Pakistan cricket team has been sorted. However, whether the fans can travel across the border to watch matches is still not clear,” an Apex Council member told PTI on conditions of anonymity. “It will be decided in due course of time. However we had promised ICC that it would be sorted. The secretary announced during the meeting.”

A total of 16 teams will be playing in the ICC T20 World Cup 2021, which will be held in October – November.
