Indian T20 League: Chennai vs Rajasthan – Game 12 – Match Preview

Chennai have a lot of experience in their batting but they seem to lack the firepower that’s needed in this format of the game.

Chennai will be mighty pleased with their performance in the last game. Led by Deepak Chahar, Chennai bowlers wreaked havoc and decimated Punjab to script a dominating win. However, Chennai will be aware that their batting is still very shaky. If they are chasing a big total, they can be in trouble. Thus the bowlers have to keep a check on the opposition in every game. Chennai have a lot of experience in their batting but they seem to lack the firepower that’s needed in this format of the game.

Suresh Raina and Moeen Ali are the two batsmen that can take Chennai to above par totals. The likes of Faf du Plessis and Ambati Rayudu can anchor the innings. Lungi Ngidi has completed his quarantine and is available for selection. But we think Chennai will not tinker much with their winning combination. The bowlers were on a roll in the last game and something similar can be expected of them against Rajasthan as well. Overall, Chennai looks a balanced team but we have doubts whether this batting can consistently post good totals.

Rajasthan, on the other hand, had two contrasting batting performances. They almost chased 222 against Punjab but struggled in the chase of 150 against Delhi. It was only the efforts of David Miller and Chris Morris that took them to victory. Rajasthan seems to be over-dependent on Sanju Samson and David Miller. Jos Buttler’s form will also be a cause of concern. The likes of Riyan Parag, Shivam Dube, Rahul Tewatiya, Chris Morris add a lot of depth but we have doubts about their consistency. Sanju Samson will be a key wicket for the Rajasthan. If Samson is dismissed for not much, Rajasthan can be under serious pressure. Their bowling also looks bleak in the absence of Jofra Archer. The bowlers did well against Delhi but can they back their performance with another good one?

Pitch Report – The match will be played at the Wankhede Stadium. The surfaces in Mumbai has been good for batting and we can expect another batting friendly wicket in today’s game
